Optus is an Australian leader in integrated communications – serving more than 8.9 million customers each day. The company specializes in a broad range of communications services including mobile, local, national, and long-distance telephony, business network services, internet and satellite services, and subscription television. In 2001, SingTel became the parent company of Optus, paving the way for Optus to become a strong and strategic telecommunications player within the Asia-Pacific region.
The company was founded as Optus Communications Pty, Ltd. and changed its name to Cable & Wireless Optus Pty, Ltd. in 1998. Further, it changed its name to Optus in 2001. The company is based in North Sydney, Australia.
The Problem
As one of the leading companies in integrated communication, working on big projects in several areas is the core of their business process and environment. Managing several projects simultaneously requires good organization, exceptional teamwork and collaboration, and on-time synchronized communication.
But in big companies such as Optus, projects cannot go smoothly if there is no appropriate Project Management and tracking system. Since the practice showed that most of the teams only need to view the project plan and report their task progress, MS Project licensing for every team member was not the smartest solution, having in mind the cost of obtaining the licenses, and the time needed for MS Project deployment and maintenance.
The Solution
As explained by Witold Chylewski, the responsible person for desktop applications, Optus wanted a solution that will have the interface of MS Project but reduce costs in the environment and prevent the purchase of many MS Project licenses when only viewing of the project was required. “We searched on Google for such option, found several possible solutions, and when we compared all of them, Seavus Project Viewer was by far the best choice.”- he recalled.
The Benchmark showed that Seavus Project Viewer has the most effective features, all MS Project views available and excellent speed in opening large projects, exactly what Optus needed. After purchasing Seavus Project Viewer, Optus started experiencing its functionalities and quality, as well as the ease of implementation and usage.
The Outcome
The time to implement the software was reduced, productivity and task progress became visible and costs significantly decreased. “With Seavus Project Viewer we have no need of team training, frequent project status meetings, and reporting”, said Witold.
“The information is centralized, communication improved and overall efficiency is gained in no time. Now it is much easier and inexpensive to manage multiple large projects, get task updates by team members, and track the project progress”.
